BetterPowered may help a property owner compare project paths, identify financing that a contractor makes available, find potentially relevant incentives, and organize application information. The financing provider, program administrator, utility, government agency, or tax authority makes the final decision.

Contractor or third-party financing

A participating contractor may offer financing directly or through an independent lender or program. BetterPowered is not a lender and does not set or guarantee rates, fees, terms, eligibility, underwriting, approval, funding, or servicing unless a separate written disclosure expressly states otherwise.

Before accepting financing, review the total financed amount, annual percentage rate, fees, payment schedule, term, prepayment rules, security interest or lien terms, dealer fees, promotional-period changes, late charges, and the relationship between financing and the project contract. Ask the provider for the disclosures that apply to your offer.

Rebates and other incentives

Rebates, grants, utility programs, tax credits, deductions, and other incentives can depend on funding, application dates, income, address, utility territory, property type, equipment, efficiency standards, approved contractors, permits, pre-approval, installation date, and other rules. A listed incentive is not a reservation or guarantee.

Do not begin work based only on a BetterPowered summary. Confirm the current official requirements and whether approval is needed before purchase or installation. Keep final contracts, invoices, model and serial information, permits, proof of payment, and program correspondence.

Tax information

BetterPowered does not provide tax or legal advice. Tax treatment depends on current law and individual facts. Consult the responsible tax authority or a qualified adviser before relying on a credit, deduction, basis adjustment, or tax consequence.

Paperwork support

Support may include locating official program information, creating a checklist, organizing property and project records, and helping route forms or questions. It does not transfer responsibility for accuracy, signatures, deadlines, eligibility, or compliance away from the applicant, contractor, provider, or program administrator.

Savings and payment comparisons

Comparisons between projected energy savings and a payment are estimates, not a promise that a project will “pay for itself,” produce positive cash flow, or reduce every bill. Utility rates, weather, occupancy, behavior, equipment performance, maintenance, fees, and installation quality can change results.
